CHARACTER
NAME: Izō Okada
CANON: Fate/Grand Order
CANON POINT: post-lostbelt 2
BACKGROUND: here. Additionally, in guda guda 3, the event he was featured in, he encountered the master and Ryouma Sakamoto, joined their side after briefly getting into a fight, fought the Lancer in the Grail War before they all reached the final fight with Akechi Mistuhide. In an act of selflessness, he stayed behind to ensure everyone else escaped after the fight. He did not die there, however, and resurfaced later to fight the master in the later part of the event, upset that no one went to check on him.
SUITABILITY: Izō isn't a great person and his morals are equally grey. He was in assassin in life and killed people without question nor hesitation. He has no problem doing what needs to be done in the moment, even if it's going to get other people killed. He has also tortured people to extract information from them.
He's not a solely terrible person, though, and he will help out a comrade in need when it's necessary. In canon, he returned to help fight a final battle against a strong enemy and stayed behind while everyone else got out, seemingly sacrificing himself to save everyone else. His only real sense of “good” is likely helped along by someone he was friends with since childhood, Ryouma Sakamoto – he was an idealist to the end and Izō took some of that to heart. Basically, he's evil-aligned, but there are hints of some neutral or even good within him if it's necessary.
QUESTIONNAIRE:
● Your character finds an injured okami deep in the woods. Its leg is broken, trapped under a fallen tree, but it’s clearly in good health otherwise. They know this type of youkai is able to discern the morality of their past actions, and can turn hostile to them based off that judgment. What do they do?
Upon seeing the injured yokai, he would turn around and go back the way he came to avoid its judgement. Izō is well aware of his past misdeeds and knows most wouldn't look upon them kindly, especially not an okami. Murder, no matter if it's in the service of an organization one believes in, is rarely excusable. He assisted in or was responsible for the assassinations of at least four important men, possibly more than that. He also killed people while serving as a bodyguard -- those may be seen as justifiable because they were protecting people, but he's not going to risk it.
● Your character's worst enemy asks to meet alone by moonlight in a remote location, to discuss temporarily banding together against a larger threat. How do they respond to the invitation?
Refusal. He's been betrayed so many times that he knows this will only end with a knife in his back. He can figure out a way to deal with the threat on his own without relying on someone that doesn't have his best interests in mind. He's been a useful idiot one too many times in his life to fall for something like this. He's not very smart, but he's not dumb enough to fall for what is, in his view, so obviously a trap.
● Your character has the option to lead a rampaging oni away from path where it would find and attack a lone, inhabited farmhouse. However, the only road they can distract it down leads to the city, where it will inevitably do more damage. What do they choose to do?
The path of least resistance. It's not that he cares about the city, it's more that it's easier to lead it to the farmhouse. What's a few lives given to an oni in the grand scheme of things? He'd take it to the farmhouse and maybe...run ahead to get the people inside out. If he can't save them, well, that's not his problem. He tried. Their deaths won't weigh on his conscience at all.
● A shrine of a powerful god offers your character a unique boon crafted to overcome the biggest challenge they’re currently facing. In return, it only asks to be able to possess your character for a 24 hour span of its choosing, which they will not necessarily get warning for. How do they feel about the exchange, and more importantly, do they accept it?
He would feel insulted by the offer and absolutely refuse it. His confidence in his skills as a swordsman and his own abilities borders on arrogance –- anything that tells him he can't do it or is unable to do it without help is to be refused. It's like they're laughing at him and he won't stand for that. It would be different if they were offering an alliance because he can understand the need for an alliance, but something made specifically to overcome a challenge is more like a slap in the face.
